RULE 1 of 5 - Building Your Personal Brand Online: Master your elevator pitch.

Hands up if you have heard of the term elevator pitch before??

Put simply, an elevator pitch is a memorable description of what you do and/or what you sell.

But, where people get confused is the idea of an elevator pitch isn’t to convert the conversation to a sale - it is to earn a second conversation.

My elevator pitch is - My name is Hayley Westoby I am the Founder of Gambit Collective, a Pay-As-You-Go marketing agency, making marketing accessible to all.

Now have a think about yours…

Having helped many people craft their elevator pitch here are 4 tips for crafting your own:

  1. Make it parent proof: We all at some point have struggled to simply explain what we do to our parents. Make your elevator pitch parent proof by keeping it simple.

  2. Keep it simple and free of buzz words: Focus on the key points that differentiate you or your business and make it clear what you offer. Aim for a pitch that can be delivered within 30 seconds, 60 seconds max, the typical duration of an elevator ride.

  3. Highlight the Value Proposition: Clearly communicate the value or benefits you provide. Explain how you solve a problem or fulfill a need for your target audience. Emphasize the unique selling points that set you apart from competitors and explain why your product, service, or personal skills are valuable.

  4. Practice and Refine: Rehearse your elevator pitch regularly to become comfortable and confident in delivering it. Practice in front of a mirror, with friends, or record yourself to assess your delivery and make necessary adjustments. Seek feedback and iterate to improve the clarity and effectiveness of your pitch over time.

Some examples of elevator pitches I have heard over the years are:

  • "We provide eco-friendly, customizable home cleaning solutions that save you time and protect the planet."

  • "Our software streamlines inventory management for retailers, reducing costs and increasing efficiency."

  • "I'm a versatile marketing professional with a proven track record in digital strategy, helping businesses grow their online presence and drive revenue."

  • "Our app connects busy professionals with local fitness trainers for personalized workouts on their schedule."

  • "We're a social enterprise empowering underprivileged communities by providing access to clean water through innovative filtration systems."
